Our Week in Pics

This week our middle child got his wellness check and is all ready for preschool.
Woo Hoo, three mornings a week with new friends and creative play.
 (this mom can't wait)
Much of the week we spent outdoors on walks, swimming, riding bikes, watering and visiting the park.
We even squeezed in a trip to the library.
It was a pleasure to have Uncle Steffen over for dinner too.
The week wrapped up with a family outing to Laguna Hills Prehistoric Playground and Farrell's.

Cowboy Cookies; A Family Favorite

I stumbled upon this cookie recipe on Pinterest.  I am a sucker for sweet treats and cookies are just the right size for indulging my taste buds. These cookies have a great texture and are sinfully delicious. The recipe whips up quickly and clean up is easy. Cowboy Cookies don't last long around here; that is a family endorsement! Enough said.

Cowboy Cookies

1 1/3 cup four
1 t baking soada
1 t baking powder
1/4 t salt
1 cup oats
1/2 cup white sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
3/4 cup chocolate chips
1/2 cup m&m's
1/2 cup pecan pieces

1/2 cup butter- one stick melted
1 slightly beaten egg
1 t vanilla

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Combine all dry ingredients in a large bowl.  Add wet ingredients to dry, incorporate until dough forms. Drop rounded spoonfuls onto cookie sheets.  Bake 12 minutes.  Allow to cool. Transfer into air tight storage container.

*You can use seasonal colored m&m's for added fun too!

Nom, Nom, Nom!

Our Week In Pics

Returned from a wonderful family vacation and got back into our routine.
Started off celebrating Nana's and my Dad's birthday.
Great way to begin a week.
We moved through the week with swimming, planting and a little plumbing job!
Good times!
We are a little lean on pics since I ended the week with a stomach bug.
Here's our week in pictures:

Old Mining Ghost Town; Bodie!

Bodie State Historic Park is one of the best preserved old mining towns in the country.  While only a fraction of the town remains, at it's peak in the 1800's it had over 10,000 residents. If you are a history lover, teacher or love the idea of time traveling, include a visit to this town.  Park rangers are very knowledgable and have plenty of wild stories to share about this "boomtown."

While looking at the structures and peering in the windows  your imagination will fill in what is missing.  Walking down Main St. (even though it was desolate), I heard the hustle and bustle of a thriving town.

A fire set by a young boy is rumored to have destroyed much of the town, but for me the extreme climate would have had me packing.

Check out California State Parks web page for more information on visiting hours.  When traveling through the eastern Sierra's add Bodie to your "must see list."
